BJP inks deal with Janata Dal-Secular for Karnataka by-polls
In a bid to avert a split in ant-Congress votes, BJP has decided not to fight the two Lok Sabha by-polls to be held in Karnataka on 21st August.
The bypolls have been necessitated after JD-S MPs H.D. Kumaraswamy and N. Cheluvarayaswamy, vacated their Lok Sabha Seats of Bangalore Rural and Mandya respectively, after winning the May 5 assembly elections to the Karnataka legislature.
The move will result in the direct fight for the Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats between the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular.
JD-S has reciprocated the move by not fielding candidates for Legislative Council poll from Chitradurga, Dharwad and Mysore Local Authorities constituencies to be held on August 22. This will stand BJP in good stead as there will be direct contest with the Congress in these polls.
